Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen
Piranesi on Paper,
A study of the work of Italian artist, print maker and trader Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1778) at Depot
Boijmans Van Beuningen. Curated by Mireille Linck and designed Studio Phil Procter.
The exhibition studies and presents the rarely scene prints and books of Piranesi, alongside extensive research carried out by Mireille Linck into the watermarks and heritage of the 751 Piranesi works in the collection of the Boijmans Van Beuningen.
Throughout the course of the exhibition, we played with magnification to highlight and study the textures and hidden details found in Piranesi’s Oeuvre. Blow ups, magnifying lenses, light boxes, projections, and the materiality of the exhibition displays all invite the visitor to get closer to the work and techniques used. These new perspectives support the research of print curator Mireille Linck and aim to further illuminate the ingenuity and intensity of Piranesi’s output.
Exhibition running 02/12/2022 - 05/03/2023 at Depot Boijmans. More information here

The Piranesi exhibition design and the objects within,
marks the first phase in a long-term collaboration between the Depot and Phil
Procter. Phil’s Studio will develop site-specific furniture and spaces such as the
Depot Library, a permanent gallery for works on paper, public seating, modular
vitrines, art carts, display shelving and temporary exhibitions. This
partnership will lead to a body of practical research and an extensive
collection of elements that study, express, and serve the demands of a unique
building such as the Depot. In the spirit of the building, the conception, development,
and realisation of these elements will be openly communicated through
interviews, prototypes, studio visits and publications.
